We have always had a strict no-hoarding policy. Every surplus penny benefits refugees.
That is our promise.

Mary Stretch, CEO

Calais Light NGO Grants

As an entirely volunteer-led registered charity, Calais Light uses all donations for the direct and immediate benefit of refugees. Our current no hoarding policy means that when we have any surplus funds, the Trustees make the decision to gift grant money to our NGO partners in need. We respond to their emergency appeals for migrant supplies, tents etc. and we also replenish supplies needed in Calais.

How grant money is spent:

  • Buying essential items for NGOs in need

  • £750 for saucepans for families cooking for themselves outdoors

  • Buying 37,000 teabags for Care4Calais field distributions

  • £500 for replenishing games: chess sets, dominoes, Jenga, Connect4

  • Fuel for transport of 4 pallets of toiletries to Roots of Dunkirk

Even more charities we have supported with Grants:

We aim to attract entirely new donors to the refugee space who would not otherwise donate. When they donate to us, we provide instant cash lifelines to charities in need.

  • £1,000 mobile refugee support (MRS) in Dunkirk for phone recharging and WIFI (Dec '23)

  • £1,000 to Roots of Dunkirk who provide drinking water, soap, showers, litter picking (Dec '23)

  • £500 to Calais Food Collective who advocate for food and water provision for displaced people in France (Dec '23)

  • £500 to Care4Calais for humanitarian aid (Dec '23)
