We have always had a strict no-hoarding funds policy. Every surplus penny benefits refugees.
That is our promise.

Mary Stretch, CEO

As an entirely volunteer-led registered charity, Calais Light uses all donations for the direct and immediate benefit of refugees in the UK and Northern France. Our no hoarding policy means that when we have any surplus funds, the money is gifted to our NGO partners in need. We respond to their emergency appeals for migrant supplies, tents etc. and we also replenish supplies needed in Calais.

How your money is spent:

  • Purchasing bike repair items for Care4Calais when supplies run out

  • Buying 37,000 teabags for Care4Calais field distributions

  • £500 for games and sports: dominoes, Jenga, Connect4

  • Fuel for transport of 4 pallets of toiletries to Roots of Dunkirk

Emergency Grants

We aim to attract entirely new donors to the refugee space. These donors would not otherwise donate to this space. When they donate to us, we provide instant cash lifelines to charities in need.

We also use your donations to fund emergency grants to refugee charities in France and the UK.

Some recent examples:

  • £1,000 mobile refugee support (MRS) in Dunkirk for phone recharging and WIFI (Dec '23)

  • £1,000 to Roots of Dunkirk who provide drinking water, soap, showers, litter picking (Dec '23)

  • £500 to Calais Food Collective who advocate for food and water provision for displaced people   in France (Dec '23)

  • £500 to Care4Calais for humanitarian aid (Dec '23)

Looking to help in other ways? As well as donations, there are many ways to support refugees through Calais Light.

We are recruiting for volunteers in the UK where we support newly arrived refugees awaiting official status, as well as volunteers for convoys to Calais, France delivering aid relief to those trapped there.

Calais Light also needs volunteers to help our successful and impactful charity keep running! Its thanks to our dedicated team that we can offer opportunities to support refugees in UK and France. Be part of our small but important team by joining our charity.
