A typical day
8am: Free Breakfast in the Youth Hostel (cereal, cake, bread, tea, coffee, fresh juice, and yes – crepes!)
9am: Leave hostel as a convoy and get ready to travel to the Care4Calais/RCK site.
9:30am: Morning Warehouse Health & Safety Briefing, plus an overview of the current refugee situation. Then it’s time for Task Assignment - you choose the Warehouse job you feel suits you best.
9:45am: Teamwork! Sorting clothes, cleaning services, prepping aid, food parcels or supplies, checking tents, unpacking new donations, or organising the Warehouse.
12.30pm: At Care4Calais lunch is served! A yummy vegetarian meal like dhal with rice and bread
At Calais Appeal: Pop next door to the Lidl to buy your own lunch.
Afternoon: Calais Appeal Site - Continue with morning activities.
Care4Calais Site: Afternoon Field Safety briefing, maps & Field Task selection for distribution. Again you get to choose which distribution task you wish!
1:40pm: Afternoon briefing for distribution.
2pm: Everyone leaves in convoy for distribution at various sites around Calais.
5.30pm: Return to C4C warehouse for volunteer debriefing – discussing the highs and lows of the day with C4C Lead Volunteers.
6pm: Return in convoy to the hostel to freshen up and relax before dinner – maybe even stroll on the beautiful Calais beach which is a 3 min walk away!
7pm: All meet for dinner and drinks at a restaurant in the centre of Calais (only a 10 min walk from the hostel).
