Run your own mini-convoys:

A how-to guide from Calais Light

here it is!

Empowering people to run their own convoys is

our vision for 2021 & BEYOND and we need you to step up to the mark!

  • Calais Light is about getting people (and money - see our Fundraising page) over to northern France to help the desperate, stranded migrant population.

  • With all the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19 and the various commitments of our team, Calais Light will not be running our group convoys for the time being.

  • However, this hasn’t stopped Calais Lighters from setting up and running their own successful convoys to France. Indeed, our prime objective is to show people just how easy it is to pack a pair of spare pants, a passport, and nip over the Channel to volunteer with our three partner charities (Care4Calais, Refugee Community Kitchen & Calais Appeal).

  • That’s why we call ourselves Calais Light. We are a ‘light touch organization that aims to teach people how to put together their own convoy from scratch’.  Don’t over-think, don’t over-plan, just get on and do it - your help and involvement are desperately needed.

  • Using all of our past experiences (we have organized 14 Group trips over three years thus far), we have created a How to Build your Own Convoy TEMPLATE to support YOU in setting up and running YOUR very own mini-convoy.

  • It’s a simple, step-by-step guide which will take you through from the initial organising to your eventual arrival in Calais.

  • Running your own convoy really is great fun: you set the date to suit you; you get to decide which of our partner charities to support, and who you want to go with.

  • And you can go with anyone, a group of friends, work colleagues, family members, or a bunch of like-minded strangers - people you have yet to meet!

  • Remember: all you need is a valid passport, a change of clothes and a few Euros.

  • Our 3 partner charities run on volunteers – they are particularly desperate for weekday help as well as weekends – so….just pick a date and make a decision. Enjoy it, you won’t regret it.
